East Bay Meditation Center

If all the drinking hasn’t assisted you in calming your nerves, no worries. Our last pin will save the day! The East Bay Meditation Center’s mission is: “...forster liberation, personal and intrapersonal healing, social action, and inclusive community building.” The East Bay Meditation Center, or EBMC, offers a variety of meditation, often focused around queer people and people of color.

The entire center is wheelchair accessible. And the classes are donate as you can, and all of the facilities run on donations. Instead of being put on the spot at the beginning of the classes, those who participate are asked to donate monthly what they can.

As trans* people are marginalized, and it’s difficult to navigate spaces as a non-binary person, I think it’s important while discussing Yoga to talk about the way that it furthers the marginalization of Dalit people in India. Yoga is taught in sanskrit, a language that has been inaccessible to Dalit women in India. (TW) When Dalit women in India speak Sanskrit they are often punished by having wax poured in their ears, or having their tongues cut out. The Caste Apartheid is often upheld by brutalizing Dalit women’s bodies. So while Yoga is fantastic, I think it’s really important to discuss ways in which American’s further perpetuate oppression of other people.

With that in mind, below is a list of some of my favorite classes offered at EBMC!
