Started in 1916, the Piedmonter covers local news in and around Piedmont. While Piedmont is not technically a part of Oakland, as it was incorporated as an independent city in 1922, Oakland surrounds Piedmont, and since Piedmont is so small, it is often lumped in with Oakland.

Currently a part of the Bay Area News Group (BANG), the Piedmonter publishes online regularly and in print weekly. The Piedmonter mainly covers stories that are of use to residents of Piedmont, whether they occur in Oakland or Piedmont. You can locate the Piedmonter under the“My Town” section of the Bay Area News Groups larger website.

They work closely with the Montclarion staff and they often post on their Facebook pages about coverage done by each other. The Piedmonter was originally started as a way to garner community in Piedmont and make it it’s own. However, due to the nature of news reporting today, they mainly report on hyper local ongoings.
